I return to the Northeast each summer and in recent times make a two-week painting retreat at a log cabin on a small Adirondack lake, where I also stage a family reunion. Saratoga Springs, home of my alma mater Skidmore College, is less than an hour away. Five years ago, while visiting downtown Saratoga, I did a favor for the owner of Gallery 100, Deborah Martin, and set up my easel on the sidewalk in front of her gallery to paint the urban landscape “en plein air”, as crowds passed by, during Saratoga’s first Artsfest. Participating in the festival for several summers inspired new directions in my work, notably the series “Hats on Broadway”. While painting, I was greeted with delight by Dr. Jamie Kettlewell, my esteemed former art history professor, and had the pleasure of enjoying his art historical critique and appreciation of my work in progress! My paintings have also been featured at Gallery 100 and in two Saratoga Artsfest juried exhibits.
